History of Svitavy

In 2000 a simple exhibit on the history of the town was installed in the entrance hallway of the museum. A total of 16 display panels present archival photographs of documents, individuals, and events important in the history of the town. The town’s founding charter is on display and visitors can view photographs of the most significant landmarks, churches, Baroque sculptures, residential villas of industrialists, as well as photographs of historical events such as the passage of the Austrian army through the town in 1866, the visit by Czechoslovak President T. G. Masaryk in 1929, and the German occupation of the town in 1938 after the signing of the Munich Agreement. The exhibit commemorates the period of the founding of the town up to 1945 and presents basic information about the history of the region.
